Sew your own winter mini skirt
A whole day to make a garment from scratch and discover everything behind an apparently simple skirt. Together we will sew our straight-cut mini skirt with a slightly fitted silhouette, this time in a winter version: you choose the fabric and we show you how to turn it into a skirt made by you. No previous experience needed: we are with you all day and adapt the help to your level.
First, let’s understand the skirt
Before we switch the machines on you will see how it is built: its pieces, how we get its shape and the role of the darts, which are what make a flat piece of fabric fit the body and give that fitted silhouette. When you understand how a garment is made, sewing it makes far more sense.
From the pattern to your fabric
We work with the pattern from the very beginning: reading it, identifying its pieces and understanding its markings before cutting. Then we lay it on the fabric and cut your skirt together, so that next time you open a pattern at home you are not left thinking “and now where do I start?”.
Darts, invisible zip and lining
Here is one of our favourite parts: you will learn to sew the darts, to insert an invisible zip at the side and to assemble a lined skirt, three techniques that are useful for many other projects. We will do them together, asking questions and repeating as much as needed, because the point is not to finish the skirt but to understand how each one is done.
A mini skirt for winter
You bring the fabric, so the skirt will match your style completely. In “What to bring” you will find our fabric recommendations and the amount you need. Even though we all work from the same pattern, every skirt ends up being different.
A whole day for sewing
We have from 10 am to 5 pm to go through the whole process together, with coffee and drinks during the day and a midday break to share a picnic, which is included. Afterwards, back to our skirts.
What is included?
When you arrive your machine and all the working materials will be ready, as well as the coffee, the drinks and the picnic. The only things you bring are the fabrics for your skirt (outer fabric and lining), the thread, the interfacing and the zip; in “What to bring” you will find the guidance on exactly what to buy and how much. And the finished mini skirt goes home with you.
What to bring
You bring the fabric, the lining, the thread, the interfacing and the zip; we provide the needles. You choose the fabric, and here are our recommendations and the amounts you need.

Outer fabric. For the winter version, some ideal options are:
- Ponte knit
- Medium-weight stretch crepe
- Fine wool knit
Lining. Cotton or viscose, with stretch that moves with the outer fabric.
What you need to bring
- Main fabric, for size 38 and height 170 cm: 60 cm long x 150 cm wide
- Lining, for size 38 and height 170 cm: 60 cm long x 150 cm wide
- Lightweight fusible interfacing
- Sewing thread in the colour of the fabric (for example, Gütermann)
- Invisible zip, 20 cm
And the pattern goes with you too
After the workshop you will receive the digital pattern for the mini skirt with its instructions: sizes 34–46, seam allowance and files in A4, A0 and US Letter. So when you want to make it again — another fabric, another colour — you will know exactly how it is built and how to do it on your own.
One day · one design · a garment made by you
By the end you will not only be able to say “I sewed my own skirt”: you will have learnt to read its pattern, cut the fabric, work the darts, insert an invisible zip and assemble the lining. And to do it again by yourself.
